Join Us

Thank you for your interest in joining the Theddlethorpe GDF Community Partnership.

This is your chance to be part of the conversation about the biggest environmental protection project of our lifetime.

It is important that the Community Partnership is reflective of the community as we will develop a programme of activities that responds to, and addresses, local questions and concerns raised. We would like to encourage anyone who lives or works in the Search Area to consider joining us.

We are looking for new members to help provide information and encourage discussions to ensure all voices are heard as we take forward the conversations on what a Geological Disposal Facility (GDF) could mean locally and whether the electoral wards of Withern & Theddlethorpe and Mablethorpe could be the right place to host a GDF.

This work will take place over a number of years and the Community Partnership will be where local people will be involved in the process alongside the local authorities and supported by the geological and technical advice provided by Nuclear Waste Services (NWS). Membership will continue to evolve as the work progresses and there will be other opportunities for people to be involved.

Current membership vacancies

  • A business sector member
  • Co-opted members – 2 positions available (closing date 31st December)
    One of the co-opted positions is being made available for a young person aged 18 – 25 yrs

Co-opted members will be invited to be on the Partnership for an initial 2 year period. Successful applicants will be joining the Partnership with the same responsibilities as other members. All applications received will be considered and the Partnership will appoint the successful candidates.

The role of the Community Partnership

  • Facilitate discussion with the community;

  • Be the key vehicle for community dialogue with NWS;
  • Review and refine the boundaries of the Search Area as NWS’s investigations progress;
  • Identify priorities for Community Investment Funding;
  • Make recommendations to the relevant principal local authorities on the Community Partnership on whether to invoke the Right of Withdrawal and if and when to launch a Test of Public Support;
  • Agree a programme of activities to develop the community’s understanding of the siting process and the potential implications of hosting a GDF;
  • Develop a community vision and consider the part a GDF may play in that vision;
  • Monitor public opinion in relation to siting a GDF within the Search Area and the Potential Host Community

An outline of the full role and key responsibilities of a Community Partnership can be found from page 45 in the Implementing geological disposal – working with communities policy.
