Lincolnshire County Council agreed to join the Working Group at a meeting of the council's executive on 5 October 2021. As the upper tier authority for the administrative area of Lincolnshire which includes Theddlethorpe, the council has oversight of strategic planning and infrastructure for the county.

The council's decision to get involved recognises that ultimately it will be a community decision as to whether a GDF should be built. The council's involvement is therefore to make sure that residents and businesses have access to information they need, and to help reflect their views.
