Exploring economic impact and transformation

Report explores potential economic impact and long-term economic transformation

A recent report has been published by the Midlands Engine Observatory titled ‘A Current Socio-economic Profile of East Lindsey and an Economic Impact Assessment of a Geological Disposal Facility in East Lindsey’

The report provides an overview of the socio-economic landscape of East Lindsey, outlining key challenges such as an ageing population, skills shortages, and economic underperformance.

It examines the potential economic impact of hosting a Geological Disposal Facility (GDF) in the area, exploring opportunities for long-term economic transformation. The report is a resource for policymakers, businesses, and community leaders and it outlines insights and possibilities to aid discussions on the potential and future of the East Lindsey district.

This independent report was launched on the Midlands Engine LinkedIn profile, and it was highlighted by the University of Lincoln at a summit held in Westminster earlier this week on Monday 3 March.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Lincoln led a parliamentary Skills and Employment Summit in the House of Lords on Monday 3 March. At this event people explored the potential opportunities that a Geological Disposal Facility (GDF) could present for Lincolnshire.

Nuclear Waste Services (NWS), the University of Lincoln and other organisations discussed the potential for local job creation and economic growth. Delegates considered how the introduction of a major infrastructure project, such as a GDF, and its resulting supply chain would help provide aspirational opportunities for younger people, improve connectively, and attract further investment. The event featured the independent report by the Midlands Engine Observatory.
