Chair provides statement from the Community Partnership.
Lincolnshire County Council (LCC) has announced the intention to withdraw from the Community Partnership.
Members of the Community Partnership held a meeting and recognised that, subject to pre-election period guidance, it has a continuing responsibility to facilitate dialogue between the community, Nuclear Waste Services and LCC on all matters relating to the search for a site for a Geological Disposal Facility (GDF).
The Partnership recognises that people in the Search Area should have their questions answered on the short and long-term implications of a GDF and that there should ultimately be a fair, robust, and credible test of public opinion. It recognises the situation both councils are in and accepts that the decision to withdraw must be a formal decision taken at a meeting of the county council’s Executive.
In the circumstances, the Partnership will continue to discharge its responsibilities and looks forward to further developments in the post-election period.
