Flanders Friends were awarded £17,341.90 towards their event ‘Poppies on the Prom’, which took place over the weekend of 3rd and 4th August 2024.
The event aims to improve community wellbeing by fostering intergenerational links in an ageing population. It is a free event that will take place over two days in sites will be a two day event taking place on High Street, Queens Park, Sherwood Field and the North Prominade. It centres around the Search Area’s WW2 history, elderly population and community of ex-service personnel and seeks to foster intergenerational learning.
It will offer vintage stalls, living history groups and re-enactments, games and rides, and vintage aircraft fly-pasts, and live entertainment.
The group have demonstrated support from local businesses and local performers, many of whom have offered their services in-kind.
